Late Work
Mrs. Finch’s Late Work Policy
Preventative Measures:
Taking responsibility for your grades is vital to your academic success and your success in the future. Please note the grading policy for late work:
Example of letter that must be attached to late work:
August 25, 2018
Dear Mrs. Finch,
Wordly Wise 1A-E was due Thursday, August 23, 2018. My assignment is late because I forgot my Wordly Wise workbook at home.
In the future I will be more responsible. To ensure my work is turned in on time in the future, I will pack my backpack at night, so I don’t forget anything if I’m rushing in the morning.
Sincerely,
(Student Name)
Preventative Measures:
- Bring your agenda to class each day and fill it out.
- Store your homework in a “Homework Folder” so you don’t lose it.
- Each night, check your agenda and your backpack. Make sure you have everything you need.
- Sign up for reminders using the Remind App (see my website for details).
- Look at your grades in PowerSchool at least one time every week.
Taking responsibility for your grades is vital to your academic success and your success in the future. Please note the grading policy for late work:
- Your grade will lose 10% each day it is late. After five days, I will no longer accept the work.
- In order to earn any credit for late work, you must write a letter using the following guidelines:
- Date, greeting, signature must be included
- Paragraph one: (Assignment Title) was due on (write its original due date). My assignment is late because…
- Paragraph two: To ensure my work is turned in on time in the future, I will...
- Date, greeting, signature must be included
- If you are absent, you are responsible for making up your work in a timely manner (you have one day to make up your work for each day you were absent). If work is not made up in this timeframe, it will be considered late. Check the Absent Work Binder.
- All late work goes in the Absent/Late Work Bin. DO NOT hand it to me.

Absent Work
Directions:
Turning in work: If you missed a vocabulary review day, come first period or during homeroom to review your answers (with teacher permission and a pass only). All other work can be turned in the late work bin. Label it with the date you are turning it in AND the days you were absent. DO NOT hand it to me.
Making up tests and quizzes:
- Please check your class’s tab in this binder to see what you missed. Do NOT take the form with you.
- Copy down what you need to do to get caught up using your agenda.
- Check your ELA binder for handouts, and ask a peer at your table for any missed notes. If you can’t find handouts or access missed notes, please let me know.
- If you missed a test or quiz, sign up for a time to take the quiz (during homeroom on days when you don’t have character education in the auditorium or during first period). Remember, you have one day for each day you were absent to make up your quiz or test.
