This week, students will learn about dystopian literature as we begin City of Ember. All students should have a copy of the text since we will be using it to practice the skill of annotating a text meaningfully.
Students will also be working on writing complete sentences, varying the sentence types they're using, and punctuating their sentences appropriately. Upcoming Deadlines and Quiz Dates (students should be recording their homework in their agendas since they may be assigned additional work):
Wordly Wise is the vocabulary workbook we will be using throughout the year. Each student received a copy of Wordly Wise in class on Friday. On the inside cover, you will also find an access code for Quizlet. Please follow the directions to apply the code to your Quizlet account. Each code can only be used once. This is a helpful resource that will provide you with flashcards for each lesson. Please do not work ahead in the Wordly Wise workbook. If you finish early and would like suggestions for other vocabulary enrichment activities, please let me know. Due dates: Wordly Wise 1A-E is due Thursday, September 6th. Wordly Wise spelling and vocabulary quizzes are Friday, September 7th. Wordly Wise 1A-E Directions:All students are required to complete the nonfiction articles assignment. Each article should be roughly 1-1.5 pages long. Remember to bring your annotated copy to class. Due 8/29
Tween Tribune, NewsELA, Time For Kids, ScienceNews, Sports Illustrated Kids, and National Geographic Kids are all great places to look for an article online. Then, print and annotate it. Please note, you are note required to read a nonfiction book. Students who attended TMSA last school year should be prepared for reading quizzes on both Wolf Hollow and The Devils' Arithmetic this Friday, August 31st. At that time, they will also turn in their annotated copies of Wolf Hollow. :) Welcome back to school! I am excited to see familiar faces and meet new our new TMSA Tigers, too. Come to class ready to learn! I can't wait to see each of you grow and reach new goals this year.
This year, I will use the Remind App. Students are required to record their homework in their agendas daily; however, I strongly encourage students and parents to sign up for reminders by clicking here. :) |
